This time the whole process is based on French language proficiency category, and the process invited French-speaking candidates to make an application, awarding as many as 5,000 PR invitations to the candidates. However, because of the increasing competition, the minimum CRS score necessary to qualify was raised to its peak level of the year.

Highlights of Third Express Entry Draw of July 2026

Draw Date – July 9, 2026

Draw Type – French-Language Proficiency

Total Invitations Issued – 5,000

Minimum CRS Score Required – 420

Why the CRS Cutoff Reached a 2026 High of 420

The CRS cutoff of 420 represents the highest point for any French language proficiency category in 2026 according to IRCC data. The highest point previously hit was on April 15 when there was a draw with 4,000 invitations and CRS cutoff score of 419. A rise in CRS cutoff score coupled with an increase in the number of invitations shows that the pool of French language candidates has become highly competitive.

In February 2026, IRCC invited 8,500 candidates at a low CRS cutoff score of 400, inviting candidates deep in the ranked list. The invitation numbers have been falling from February to May with the numbers reducing from 8,500 in February to 4,000 in March and April.

Since then, the number of invitations has been increasing to 4,500 in May and 5,000 in July. Although there has been an increase in the number of invitations by 500 in the July draw from May, there has been an increase of 11 points in the CRS cutoff from 409 to 420. This indicates that many high-scoring French language candidates joined the Express Entry pool between May and July.

All French Language Express Entry Draws in 2026

Below is the table that monitors all the draws that have been made in relation to French language proficiency in 2026.

Draw #

Date

Invitations

CRS Cutoff

425

July 9, 2026

5,000

420

418

May 28, 2026

4,500

409

414

April 29, 2026

4,000

400

411

April 15, 2026

4,000

419

405

March 18, 2026

4,000

393

401

March 4, 2026

5,500

397

394

February 6, 2026

8,500

400

IRCC has given out a total of 35,500 French language proficiency invitations in seven draws in 2026.

Trend Analysis: CRS Cut-offs and Invitation Volumes

The CRS cut-off mark for French language draws fell to its lowest of 393 in the March 18 draw only to rise steadily thereafter. Following that trough, each subsequent draw, apart from one, featured a higher CRS cut-off mark than in the previous draw. The April 29 draw saw a temporary fall to 400 only to see the score rise further still up until July.

Volume of invitations shows a similar trend, as IRCC has slowly been raising the number of invitations in French language draws following their reduction from 8,500 in February. This current draw of 5,000 invitations is the highest French language draw since the 5,500 invitations in the March 4 draw.

The simultaneous increase in both CRS cut-offs and invitation volumes clearly suggests an increasing demand for Francophone immigration candidates in Express Entry. The focus of IRCC on building French speaking communities outside of Quebec is driving these category-specific draws.

Impact of French Proficiency on CRS Points

French proficiency is an important aspect of the CRS point system for candidates under the Express Entry program. This aspect is assessed using tests like the TEF Canada or TCF Canada and is scored based on the NCLC standards.

In the case of bilingual candidates scoring highly in both French and English, more CRS points will be awarded in comparison to monolingual candidates. The French proficiency category is particularly targeted towards candidates meeting the minimum NCLC standards as stated in the Ministerial Instructions.

Candidates who have not taken any test for assessing their French proficiency should undertake one soon if they want to take advantage of the increasing category draws. This is because even if you have modest French proficiency, it gives you access to category draws having CRS cutoff lower than that of other rounds.

Express Entry Draws Cluster July 2026

Three Express Entry draws have been conducted by IRCC in the first nine days of July 2026, involving three different streams. The PNP draw on July 6 has issued 534 invitations with a CRS cut-off of 708 to PNP nominees. The CEC draw on July 7 has issued 2,000 invitations with a CRS cut-off of 517 to Canadian Experience Class applicants. The French language draw conducted on July 9 has completed the trio with 5,000 invitations at a CRS cut-off of 420.

Thus, within a span of only four days, 7,534 invitations have been issued for applying for permanent residence. An occupation-based draw may be conducted this week for completing the July cluster.

Draw Category

Date

Invitations

Status

Provincial Nominee Program

July 6, 2026

534

Completed

Canadian Experience Class

July 7, 2026

2,000

Completed

French Language Proficiency

July 9, 2026

5,000

Completed

Occupation-Based (TEER)

Later this week

TBD

Possible

July 2026 Total

—

7,534

—

The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada is continuing its quick mid-summer draw process through the third Express Entry draw of July 2026 that was conducted on July 9.
