For the first time in the history of the Express Entry system, the IRCC conducted a draw targeting candidates with a French language proficiency level of 7 or higher.
This is done to align with Canada’s broader immigration strategy to attract skilled workers and French-speaking applicants, especially in the provinces outside of Quebec, where the need for talent is in-demand and growing.
Targeted Occupations in Express Entry Draws
The IRCC’s focus on specific occupations is part of its strategy to address labour market needs.
The following sectors are currently prioritized:
- 35 healthcare occupations
- 25 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) occupations.
- 10 trade occupations
- 10 transportation occupations
- 3 agriculture and agri-food occupations
