The mandatory entry-level training, or MELT program, is necessary to apply for a truck license in Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
In Canada, obtaining a license is a provincial obligation, and the procedures may vary on the province you are in.
MELT is now one of the requirements needed to apply for a truck driver’s AZ license; it is not a certificate of qualification.
To become a truck driver in Ontario, you must be:
- At least 18 years old
- Possessing a valid license in Ontario that isn’t a G1, G2, M, M1, or M2
- A clear eyesight test and a legitimate medical report
- Pass a test to demonstrate your expertise in driving big vehicles and tractor-trailers.
- Finish a 103.5- Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT) course that is required.
- Clear a road test.
