Occupations in Demand in the Top 5 Canadian Provinces

Most of Canada’s foreign workers are covered under the International Mobility Program (IMP). Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued more than 315,000 work permits in 2021 under the IMP alone. The significant difference between the two programs is the requirement for a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). The TFWP expects employers to complete LMIAs to show there are no laborers in Canada available to do the work, and therefore the employment of foreign workers is mandatory.

LMIAs are not required for IMP work permits because they are intended to support the interests of Canada. The most common IMP work permits fall under the Significant Benefit and Reciprocal Employment categories.
